How it all began…

Cherryhaven Home began with a request by three families in the Blountville area asking for help with their adult daughters. These parents were looking towards their daughters’ future; they wanted them to become as independent as possible.

The beginning has been humble: 4 girls, one full-time house manager and a part-time social worker. The facility is a six-bedroom home setting on approximately ten acres on the south side of Blountville.

The means for success are these: the need for services, genuine caring and concern for the clients, an undeniable determination to succeed. All things have worked together for this to come about.

Purpose…

Cherryhaven Home will provide services to special young adult women who are in need of care. Our ultimate goal is to help these young women become independent and productive members of the community.

Philosophy…

The following guidelines will be used to plan and maintain this program:

1-Normalization

We will strive to make our clients’ living arrangement as normal as possible. Respecting their individual needs, they will receive training and support to help them function in the community as independently as possible.

2-Integration: Physical and Social

Our clients will be involved in society. As we develop their Individual Support Plan, our goals and strategies will help them to feel a part of things by living where other people live, living as other people live and not being labeled unnecessarily.

3-Growth Orientation

While a given individual may not move rapidly or at all to a higher level/degree of independent living, the potential of such movement is assumed.

4-Individualization

Our program will be flexible enough to adapt to the patterns of growth found in each individual.

5-Respect for Rights

The basic right of confidentiality, personal privacy, and humane treatment will be expected and exceeded.

6-Consumer/Family Involvement

Clients and their families will play a significant role in policy development and program design.

7-Spiritual Involvement

It is understood that when the young women are with our house managers they will attend church services with them. The house manager will share as much of the Gospel of Jesus as each individual can comprehend. As we serve these young women we are serving the Lord.

Components…

1-Family Living Environment

A Christian house manager couple will help clients acquire, retain, or improve skills necessary for them to reside in a community based setting.

2-Employment Opportunities

Our Clients will learn how to achieve and maintain gainful employment.

3-Budget Management

Clients will be required to handle their money in such a way as to pay for rent, utilities, essentials, entertainment, and to save

4-Attending Appointments

Clients will have assistance to set-up appointments to meet their needs, including medical, dental and optometric. Transportation will be provided.

5-Developing Interpersonal and Social Skills

Clients will develop and use these skills so they will be able function in the community.

6-Provide Medication Administration

Clients will be responsible for their own medication administration if a physician feels they are capable of being responsible for it. When necessary we will monitor and provide the proper medication.

7-Give the Opportunity to Develop Community Skills and a Support Network

8-Staff Support

Client’s social manager will provide as much or as little guidance as an individual may require.
